Redemption Theology
Redemption theology is the branch of Christian theology that explores how humanity is liberated from sin and reconciled with God through the sacrificial life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The term comes from the ancient concept of paying a "ransom" to buy a captive out of slavery.
Key aspects of redemption theology include:
- Freedom from Bondage: It frames humanity as being trapped in slavery to sin, death, and dark spiritual forces. Jesus acts as the ultimate liberator, paying the ultimate price to set captives free.
- The "Kinsman-Redeemer": Drawing from Old Testament traditions, God is not viewed as a distant judge, but as a close relative who "buys back" what belongs to Him.
- The "Ransom" Theory: It centers on the transaction of Christ's blood as the cost of restoring humanity to its rightful owner (God), making reconciliation and eternal life possible.
