The Prayer of Manasseh

This work includes an annotated version of the Prayer of Manasseh. It is based in large part on the translation by Sir C.L. Brenton and included in the Brenton English Septuagint with Apocrypha originally published in 1851. Brenton's book is in the Public Domain.

The Prayer of Manasseh is an ancient text often included in historical versions of the Bible, such as the 17th-century King James Version (KJV) and the 4th-century Latin Vulgate. It is a short (15 verses) penitential prayer, considered part of the Apocrypha or Deuterocanonical works.

It is believed to be the prayer of King Manasseh of Judah upon his repentance, following his captivity, as mentioned in 2 Chronicles 33. It focuses on God's mercy, repentance for the sinner, and confession of sins. It is commonly used in Eastern Orthodox services (e.g., Great Lent) and is included in the 1979 Book of Common Prayer (Canticle 14).
